If it goes for anywhere close to its asking price, it would be the most expensive home to sell in the city that’s 10 miles from downtown Los Angeles

A colossal estate designed by architect-to-the-stars Richard Landry hit the market over the weekend with the potential to shatter the price record in Pasadena, California.

At more than 31,000 square feet, the mansion clocks in at half the size of the White House and is similarly replete in neoclassical architecture, including a porte cochère supported by towering, ornately carved columns and acres of European-inspired gardens.

The house, built in 1991, is asking $39.8 million, which would make it far and away the most expensive home to sell in the city, located about 10 miles from downtown Los Angeles. The record holder is a mansion that featured heavily in the TV drama “Dynasty,” said Bryce Lowe, a co-listing agent on the property. It set the record in 2013 when it sold for $20 million (though it traded hands more recently for $15.6 million).

“It’s all about the architecture,” said Mr. Lowe, who’s marketing the Landry-designed megamansion alongside Aaron Kirman and Kirby Gillon of the Aaron Kirman Group team at Compass. Compass broker Sabrina Wu is also on the listing.
